Durham City manager Brian Honour has appealed for North-East football fans to turn out in force to help his side into the last 16 of the FA Carlsberg Vase today.

City stage a fourth-round replay against Dereham Town, and Honour wants as many fans as possible to help them on their way.

"It's probably one of the best games in the area," he said. "Newcastle don't play until tomorrow, Sunderland don't have a game at all. We need plenty of support, because it won't be an easy game.

"When we went there last week they had a big, partisan crowd behind them and we want the same.

"I know what North-East fans are made of and hopefully they can come and back us.

"We should have won last week. We missed a few chances - we hit the post and had one cleared off the line, but we didn't really play that well.''

The Hartlepool United legend has two former Sunderland favourites in his side and hopes their appearances will help boost the gate.

"Gary Bennett and Richard Ord have been brilliant since they played,'' he admitted.

"Benno's experience is there and he is using it in midfield - a lot of the lads at the club look up to him,

"I signed Keith Douglas - he's a massive Sunderland fan and when he first came he brought his autograph book with him!''

Honour's side also has Football League experience in former Pool players Stuart Brightwell and Stuart Irvine and Carlisle are among the clubs keeping tabs on the duo.

"We've only lost one game in 17,'' added Honour. "We had a little blip when we were without key players, but when they came back we soon got back on track.''

But Honour had a warning for his side: "All we've done is earn the right to play Dereham at home. Confidence will win the game, not complacency,'' he said.

"We might have the incentive of a home tie in the next round, but so do they."

Honour expects to name the same team as last week.
