TEENAGE table tennis players from County Durham are preparing to put opponents from the rest of the country in a spin.
Under-16 girls and boys from Greencroft School, in Annfield Plain, rattled up the points to win their sections of the English Schools Table Tennis Association area finals in Billingham.
They will now represent the North of England in the national finals in Blackburn next month.
Greencroft headteacher Chris Espiner said the performance of the four boys and four girls had been remarkable.
He said: "This is fantastic considering table tennis started here has a lunchtime activity on a couple of redundant tables.
"We now have up to 100 pupils playing the game every lunchtime and have players of national standards.
"It is thanks to the hard work and dedication of PE head Sharron Hogg that table tennis at the school has been taken to this excellent level."
He added: "The school benefits from having a sports hall that we share with local table tennis players and a coach from a Darlington team works with our young people."
The victorious eight are: Sam Rafferty, Graham Whalley, Craig Burke, Rupert Hughes, Danielle Hockaday, Stacey Rafferty, Debbie Irwin and Jessica Panting.
