A BABY showered in glass when youths threw a metal bolt through a window was still suffering from shock last night.
Seven-month-old Declan Evans was on the floor of his babysitter's home in Cadogan Street, North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, on Thursday night when the bolt came through the window, skimming his head and showering him in glass.
Doctors told his mother, Louise Evans, that he narrowly escaped death.
Last night, Ms Evans, 20, said her baby was still distressed.
"He won't settle at all," she said. "He used to play with his toys quite happily for hours, but now all he wants to do is be held. He is very nervous.
"I took him to the emergency doctor over the weekend because I was still worried about him, and the doctor told me he was still suffering from shock."
After the incident, he was taken to Middlesbrough General Hospital by ambulance, where staff treated him for cuts.
Ms Evans said: "There are still shards of glass in his head and I can't get them out. It is obviously hurting him because he keeps touching the cut on his head.
"We were told that if the bolt had hit him it would have killed him."
Two youths, aged about 15, were seen running away by a witness. Anyone with information is asked to contact North Ormesby police, on (01642) 303218
