MEMBERS of the public could have a greater say in admissions to and exclusions from schools in the east Cleveland area, under a new initiative.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council is seeking people interested in serving on panels which hear appeals against decisions to exclude, or to refuse to admit, children to community or church schools in the area.
The council wants applicants with an interest in education, plus good communication, reasoning and decision-making skills.
Applicants are not allowed to have personal experience of managing schools, although this does not preclude school governors.
Although the position is unpaid, there will be travelling and expense allowances, and training and support is provided.
For an informal discussion, contact the council's senior solicitor, Lesley Wilson, on (01642) 444403.
Application forms are available by telephoning Chris Eyre, on (01642) 444413.
