Traffic signals in Guisborough are to be put back to normal after an experiment.
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council temporarily altered the traffic signals at Market Cross, the junction with Bow Street and Church Street, from being three-way to two-way to see whether queues would be shorter, traffic flow would improve and pedestrians and motorists be safer.
The council's technical services department believes that the two-way system increases the chance of an accident although it does mean that queuing times were less.
Nigel Hill, from the council, said safety was paramount
