AN ancient water pump in Hartlepool's Headland is to be restored.
The water pump has been a prominent feature within the High Street on the Headland since the early 19th Century and possibly earlier. The existing structure is believed to date from the 1920s when replacement of the cast iron external panels took place.
Following concerns about the condition of the pump's internal holding framework, councillors from Hartlepool Borough Council's community safety and services board will meet to approve restoration to begin.
A new inner frame would be constructed and the cast iron panels restored to their original state. The pump would be painted and gold leaf detailing would be added
