CONCERNS raised by the public will be included in a new code of conduct for Redcar and Cleveland borough councillors.

The authority's standards committee, led by two independent members, has been heartened by the public's response to the creation of a protocol for elected members.

Chairman Peter Fulton said: "We have had good responses in correspondence, and we are pleased to say that most of the issues raised are being covered in the code.

"We believe the new code will be a big help for members in the future to know exactly what is expected of them."

After chairing an open session of the committee at Eston Town Hall, to collate views from a number of different organisations, he said: "There were a few items that we feel we need further discussion on and to decide whether we introduce a protocol in addition to the code."

The code will be discussed further at the committee's next meeting on February 18
