AN elderly woman is recovering after she was robbed and assaulted in her home.
The 82-year-old was in her home in the Parkfield area of Stockton shortly after 5pm on Friday when two males kicked her door down and burst into her home.
The lady, who is quite deaf, had even heard them attempting to lever her rear window with a spade before they came into the house.
The men searched the house before assaulting her and left with a handbag which contained personal items.
The woman put up a fight and suffered a badly cut arm and bruising to her left temple. She was checked over at hospital but allowed home.
Her daughter, who does not wish to be named, said: "I cannot believe these cowards would target a vulnerable old lady. Everyone in the neighbourhood is really shocked. I just hope people will come forward with any information."
The first man was described as about 30 years old, 6ft and of broad build. The other is slightly younger. Both had shortish dark hair and were wearing dark clothing.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Stockton police on (01642) 302240.
