A MAN was cleared yesterday of raping a drunken Teesside University student.

Quantity surveyor Bahadar Kalsi, 39, was accused of raping the woman at her Middlesbrough home on her 21st birthday.

She alleged Kalsi crept into her bed as she was sleeping off drink and drugs, and only realised when she woke at 7am.

Kalsi, who had a sexual relationship with her three years earlier, told Teesside Crown Court she consented but probably felt guilty later over her new boyfriend.

After a five-day trial, Kalsi, of Leicester, was found not guilty of two charges of rape and two of indecent assault. He was awarded his costs.
