Durham and District League

Durham Woodman put up a good display to take five points out their hosts at the unbeaten leaders, Durham Snooker Club. Bowburn oak Tree B were able to close the gap when they only dropped two points at Broom Park Loves but trail by 16 points with an extra match played. Coxhoe Club seem to be the only threat to the Snooker Club after they only conceded two points to the visiting Ushaw Moor Falss Inn. The Club trail the leaders by eighteen points with equal matches played.

Bishop Auckland and District League

Spennymoor Ashtree maintained their good start to the season and held on to their unbeaten record when they beat the visiting Tow Law Station by three points. The home side had two singles points from Tony Biddle, Stephen Jones and Harry Baillie with Paul Biddle adding one. The Station had one point each from Lee Cullinan and David Craggs. The doubles went to the home side through Stephen Jones and Tony Biddle but David Craggs came back for the Station by taking both captain's points against Paul Biddle.

Bishop Auckland King's Head made a good home win over Bishop Auckland Football Club when they had two points each from Warren Stamp, Kevin Watson, David Jacomb and Malcolm Parry, whilst the footballers had two points from lee Taylor. The King's took the doubles with a win from John Searle and Malcolm Parry with the game completed when David Jacomb and Lee Taylor shared the captain's points. The three unbeaten teams occupy the top places with Crook Olde Horse Shoe one ahead of Spennymoor Ashtree, who are four ahead of Crook Coach and Horses.

Crook and District League

The Annual General Meeting of the League will take place at Crook Travellers Rest on Tuesday, 26 February at 7.30p.m. promt when all teams must be represented. There are vacancies for new teams and they can either get further information form the league secretary, Les Scott at the Crook Coach and Horses or by telephoning 762583. The league operates two divisions playing the current World Pool Rules and also runs a singles and doubles championship during the season.

Willington League

The Prospect Club lost valuable ground in the Championship race when they went down by three points at home to second placed Howden Australian. Only Steven Britton and Trevor Allchurch managed to take singles points for the Prospect, whilst the Aussie moved ahead with wins from Ian Williams, Ray Newton, John Allott amd Michael Richardson. The visitors then clinched their victory by taking the first two of the three doubles. This leaves Hunwick Club at the top with a six points lead over the Australian, who lead the Prospect by four points. Besides the change at the top of the league there were changes in the Player of the Year rankings after Ian Richardson (Hunwick Club), Shaun Blyth (Prospect Club) and Stephen Burke (Australian) all lost, leaving Gary Moffat (Hunwick Club) to lead on eleven points with the unbeaten Steven Britton (Prospect) a point behind.

Spennymoor League

Spennymoor Salvin Arms have made a complete turn around during the close season for they now top the table after trailing badly in their first season. They are now three points clear at the top following their home win over Spennymoor Football Club B. The Salvins had singles wins from David Sheldon, Ross Canning and Tommy Howarth whilst the footballers replied through Colin Ord and Jackie Plummer. The home side then clinched their certain win when they took both doubles through Anthony Thompson with Dave Sheldon and Liam Outhwaite with Tommy Howarth. The visitors pulled one back when Jackie Plummer beat Ross canning in the captains game. The position at the top is tight with the Quinns Inn and the Hillingdon sharing second place, two points ahead of the Voltigeur, Black Horse and Half Moon. However there will be a significant affect from the fines introduced for late cards or for non-attendance at meetings. Already the Ash Tree and Quinns Inn have had four points deducted.
