A Darlington woman who married the boy next door has celebrated her diamond wedding anniversary.
Effie Sinclair, 81, married childhood sweetheart Walter, 81, a retired railway worker, after they became neighbours and fell in love.
The couple, of Emley Moor Road, Darlington celebrated 60 years together yesterday and received a card from the Queen congratulating them.
They are having a family party this weekend with their three children, David, Carol and Kenneth, their six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
The couple said their successful marriage is down to allowing each other to live the life they both want.
Effie said: "We have just lived and done what we want to do and worked hard."
