POLICE are warning householders to be on their guard after a spate of complaints about salesmen touting alarm systems around Richmond and Northallerton.
One firm in particular is claiming to have the backing of either the North Yorkshire constabulary or the county council.
However, neither endorse particular products. Anyone considering having alarms fitted in their homes is advised to stick to reputable firms.
A police spokesman said: "Anyone who may have had a similar approach over the past few days should treat it with caution.
