Under-fire Darlington chairman George Reynolds is to meet angry supporters head on as he faces up to a disappointing end to the season.

Fans were up in arms following Saturday's poor display against Torquay and a specially-arranged forum is planned for Thursday.

Reynolds, his wife Susan, PR Director Luke Raine and club directors, as well as Tommy Taylor and Mick Tait, will all be in Feethams' Ambassador Suite in an effort to placate irate fans.

Tonight, Quakers are at Leyton Orient, Taylor's former club, who are second bottom of Division Three after ten games without a win.

Their last League triumph was 5-0 against Lincoln at Brisbane Road on December 22. Saturday's defeat to Torquay extended Quakers' winless run to five games.

Taylor spent five years as Orient's boss, during which he took them to two play-off finals, and ironically Quakers played their best football this season when Taylor took Orient to Feethams in September and Darlington won 3-0.

It would be no surprise if he made changes to Saturday's team, although the injury situation does restrict his choices as Simon Betts and Craig Liddle are again out, while Andy Collett remains doubtful.

The fixture is Quakers' 15th in 46 days and Neil Wainwright believes the heavy schedule has been detrimental to Darlington's promotion hopes.

The former Sunderland winger was notable by his absence on Saturday, having picked up a hamstring injury against Hartlepool a week ago. But he's back in the squad this evening.

He said: "It's very hard for the lads to play as many games as they've had in such a short space of time, especially on Saturday when they had to play on that pitch.

"It's hard enough as it is without having to play on a poor pitch.

"I don't know about some of the other lads, but I've never played the amount of games I've had to in such a short time."

Gary Pearson is again having hamstring trouble, but the former Durham City man should play.

The aim of Thursday's meeting is to clear the air after Quakers slumped to an embarrassing home defeat to lowly Torquay, which saw Taylor's side drop to 14th in a season which began with high hopes.

Fans' forums are frequently set-up by the Supporters Club but Thursday's question and answer session has been specially arranged by Raine as supporters grow increasingly frustrated with the team's failings on the pitch. Reynolds bore the brunt of the fans' anger at the weekend.

Supporters were in no mood to mince their words at the game, and the embattled chairman can expect another bumpy ride on Thursday.

Raine explained: "We just want to quell a few people's fears and hopefully it will be a positive meeting."

The friendly between Darlington reserves and Newcastle's second-string, arranged for tomorrow night at Feethams, has been cancelled.

Meanwhile, the steward involved in a scuffle with supporters next to the tunnel at the end of Saturday's game has been reprimanded by the club and warned his future conduct will be under scrutiny.

Supporters alleged he was over-physical as fans beside the tunnel attempted to show Taylor their support following the disappointing defeat.
