EXCAVATOR manufacturer Komatsu UK is celebrating, after securing a deal right on its doorstep.

The business, in Birtley, near Gateshead, has won an order to supply a PC 210-6 hydraulic excavator to MGL Demolition in Newburn, Newcastle, thanks to an ability to meet customer demands.

The excavator was built at the Birtley plant before being customised to MGL's specifications at the Marubeni-Komatsu plant, in Chester-le-Street.

MGL asked that the excavator be fitted with a one-piece straight boom, allowing for extra height. It was also repainted from Komatsu yellow to MGL's corporate livery of jade green and lime, white and amber stripes.

Phil Newton, sales manager at Marubeni-Komatsu, said: "We are working hard to gain new business in the region and across the UK.

"There are more than 500 workers involved in the manufacture of a Komatsu excavator and its really motivating for them and me to see the machine being used so close to home."

Mark Davison, managing director of MGL Demolition, said: "This is the first time I have purchased a Komatsu excavator and I'm impressed with the resources and expertise the firm has to offer."
