HARTLEPOOL United boss Chris Turner is standing by his decision to adapt an attacking policy in a bid for the play-offs.

Pool's away form is in stark contrast to their Victoria Park fortunes - ten wins and 42 goals against four wins and just 11 strikes.

On Tuesday, Pool took the game to Cheltenham in the first-half, but failed to turn their dominance into goals and paid the price as the home side netted two goals before the break to kill the game off.

Turner said: "I said to the players on Tuesday night that we had to have a go at Cheltenham.

"We could have been like Swansea, who went two goals up at Cheltenham. Other teams have gone there and put ten men behind the ball and encouraged attacking.

"We went and attacked them but we didn't get what we deserved. If we had gone in at the break 1-0 up -like we deserved - or even 0-0 it would have been a different game.''

Turner's striking power is boosted by the return of 13-goal leading scorer Gordon Watson for tomorrow's trip to Kidderminster.

"He will be back on Saturday,'' confirmed Turner.

"Of course we are going to miss quality players.

"We have still been scoring goals at home, but having him back will give everyone a boost.''

Tomorrow's game is vital -Kidderminster are one point and one place below Pool.

"It's vital we don't lose,'' he said. "They are one of our main rivals for the play-offs.

"I think Cheltenham have a great chance of making the top three.

"They are a very strong team and if they can keep clear of injuries and suspensions in the run-in they can go straight up.

"We didn't deserve to lose 3-0 on Tuesday, but we won't play a team as strong as them every week.''
