Walk and talk with historian

Hartlepool Borough Council historian Steve Robbins is inviting people to join him for a walk round the Stranton area on Sunday. Along the way he will talk about some of the characters associated with the village. The walk is free and should last about one-and-a-half hours. ID PARADE: Police in North Ormesby, Middlesbrough, are looking for Asian males to take part in identity parades. Takeaway refusal: Plans for a hot food takeaway in Skelton have been turned down. Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council's planning committee considered a scheme to turn a High Street shop into a food outlet, open between 4pm and midnight. Neighbours objected, claiming there could be disturbance, litter and vandalism, and odours.

CARD COMPETITION: Youngsters in Billingham are invited to a design a Mothers Day card in a competition at the town's Asda store. Three children will win chocolates and wine for their mother. SPORTSMAN EVENING: Teesside Athletic Football Club are holding a sportsman evening with Tommy Smith, an ex-Liverpool player, and Norman Hunter, ex-Leeds and England, on Thursday, at the Regency Hotel, Redcar. CABINET MEETING: Stockton Borough Council will hold its next cabinet meeting in the main hall of Egglescliffe Comprehensive School, Eaglescliffe, on Thursday, at 4.30pm. The council is varying the venues for its cabinet meetings to give residents of all parts of the borough a chance to attend. With the chairman's agreement, the public are able to ask questions and make comments on agenda items only.
