Thieves in school raid

More than £1,000 worth of electrical equipment was stolen from a Darlington school in a raid at the weekend. Thieves broke into Beaumont Hill Middle School, in Glebe Road, and took a Sony theatre system between the close of school on Friday and 8.30am on Monday. The equipment included amplifiers, videos, a CD player, television, digital camcorder, Fujifilm digital camcorder and flash adapter. All of the equipment was security marked. MEDALS STOLEN: The home of a 79-year-old man, in Barmpton Lane, Darlington, was broken into between 6.45pm and 11.45pm on Sunday, by thieves who stole a picture frame containing medals from the Second World War, plus three other medals from the conflict. HOUSE RAID: Thieves who tried to burgle a house in Neasham Road, Darlington, between 9pm on Sunday and noon on Monday left empty-handed. Anybody who has information is urged to call Darlington Police on (01325) 467681 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

DRUM MONEY: Drummer Paul Archer, from Darlington, raised £728 for Cancer Research UK, when he held a 12-hour drumathon at the town's Tap'n'Spile pub last month.

STORE PRIZE: Dorothy Perkins' refurbished store in the Cornmill Centre, Darlington, has presented Margaret Foster, of Gainford, £150 worth of Dorothy Perkins products, and a makeover, after she won a prize draw at its opening last month.

ANNUAL MEETING: The annual Spennymoor Town Meeting is to be held in the council chamber at the town hall next Tuesday, at 7pm.

TREASURE HUNT: An Easter treasure hunt is being held at Whitworth Hall Country Park on Friday, March 29, from 1pm to 4pm, in aid of the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust. Tickets are available on (01669) 621222.
