Willington Area League

Willington Club edged a little closer to landing the title after they fought back at Willington Brewer's Droop to force a draw. The Club made an excellent start when Alan Walker and Bobby Jackson put them two up by winning the first two singles. However the Brewer's came back with singles wins from Bob Saunders, Freddy Williamson and Jimmy Fleming. The doubles were shared when Alan Walker and Colin Walker took one for the Club and Jimmy Fleming and Freddy Williamson one for the home side. The Club managed to force the draw when Alan Walker beat Billy Wragg in the captain's game.

This result puts Willington Club three points ahead of Sunnybrow Brown Trout and the Prospect Club, who share second place. However Willington Black Horse Tavern could land either the title or the runners-up spot as they still have a match in hand.

Willington Market upset the title chances of Willington Black Horse Tavern when they beat them by three points. The Market went two up with wins from Barry Greensmith and Brian Clough. Donald Young pulled one back for the Black Horse but the home side took over again and recorded further wins through Stuart Shillan and Alan McAloon.

This result left the Black Horse one point clear at the top but the second placed, Prospect Club have a match in hand. Sunnybrow Brown Trout are in third place, two points adrift of the Prospect, also with a match in hand over the league leaders.

Tow Law Area League

Hamilton Row Black Horse edged through to land the Captain's League title by a single point from Tow Law New Market B and Esh Stag's Head, who share the second place with 15 points each.

Remaining positions and points: fourth Tow Law Rose and Crown 14; fifth Newhouse Club 13; sixth equal Tow Law Cattle Mart, Cornsay Royal Oak, Sunniside Comedian and Sunniside Moss Inn 12 each; 10th Esh Football Club 11; 11th Esh McKennas 10; 12th Tow Law New Market A 8; 13th Tow Law Station 6.

Crook League

Croft Social Club made a good start to the new season when they beat the visiting Crook Jelly's Bar A by four points. Bob Spence, Keith Hoggart, Jimmy Martindale, Brian Robson and Ian Robson all won singles for the home side whilst John Finn took a lone singles point for Jelly's. The visitors managed their second point when Neil Stoker and Lee Genner took the doubles.
