A MAJOR revamp of the Scout Movement will be launched in the North-East this weekend.
Tomorrow's launch comes after seven years of consultation and review involving 30,000 people.
The announcement, which will contain the largest changes to the Scout Movement since 1965, is being made to Scouting representatives from Cleveland, Durham, Humberside, Northumberland and Yorkshire, so they can organise local launches over the next few weeks.
Groups will have until December 2003 to adopt the new programme, which will focus on attracting volunteers to work with the young people.
A spokesman from the UK Scouting Movement said: "With social and work pressures on adults increasing, it is difficult to recruit adults to come forward and work with young people.
"For this reason it has been important to ensure that the new programme is easier and more flexible to operate.
"Although the demand to join Scouting remains unabated, growth is consistently restricted due to the difficulties of finding enough adult volunteers."
