ONLY hours after launching its annual Easter egg competition a town had a bumper clutch of 50 entries in the bag.

The competition is one of the most popular events staged by Peterlee Town Council. Sponsored by the town's Asda store and Cadbury's, it is expected to attract a record number of entries.

The categories include a class for six-year-olds and under, a seven to nine-year-old section and a ten years and over section.

Those taking part are asked to decorate a hard boiled egg and take it along to the Tourist and Information Office at 20 The Upper Chare, in Peterlee.

The closing date for entries is Wednesday.
