A NEW visitor centre is to be opened tomorrow by the Archbishop of York, the Right Reverend David Hope.
The centre has been built in the ruined shell of a 17th Century mansion in the shadow of Whitby Abbey.
English Heritage said the completion of the £5.7m Whitby Abbey Headland Project would be marked by the opening of the visitor centre in Cholmley's house and the restoration of the cobbled garden courts in front of the building.
The visitor centre, designed by the architects Stanton Williams, has been built behind the classical facade of the house
