A PROJECT which charts the history of a fishing port through displays of old photographs has declared a move to new premises a great success.

Whitby Archive and Heritage Centre said that almost 800 people had passed through the doors of its new site, in Flowergate, in the past month.

Managers are now planning a series of events for the rest of the year and are inviting ideas from local people and groups about possible new exhibitions to be staged at the centre.

Weekend workshops, which would focus on various historic topics, are also in the pipeline.

Project director Sylvia Hutchinson said: "We are getting a lot of positive feedback about the new building from our visitors.

"Without exception all the comments we have had were positive.

"People are very impressed with the layout of the new premises and with the facilities we are providing.
