HARTLEPOOL United's players have been urged to give 100 per cent between now and the end of the season - or risk losing their place in the squad.

Assistant manager Colin West, speaking after yesterday's reserves' 2-1 win at home to Wigan, was disappointed with the displays of some players at Victoria Park despite the success.

And West said: "It was frustrating. Our final ball was poor and we did not get off to a good start at all.

"It looked to me like a typical end of season game, but there are players out there who have got to starting putting in the performances.

"Although there are only a few first team games remaining they have to convince us that they have the desire to be at this club next season."

Jermaine Easter, who had missed a glorious chance from six-yards early on, scored after just five minutes from the same distance to put Pool in front.

Wigan's Paul Santus drew the game level before Adam Boyd struck a 25-yard winner. in the second half.

Meanwhile, first team keeper Anthony Williams believes his side can claim a top seven finish - but admits it's going to be hard.

The Welshman, who made some fine saves in the Easter wins over Oxford and Plymouth, said: "We can do it, there's no questioning that but it's out of our hands.

"All we can do is keep going and hopefully keep winning and maybe we can sneak in there."

Pool are five points adrift of a play-off place with three games to play. Seventh-placed Scunthorpe take on fifth-placed Rushden on Saturday.
