A seaside tourist attraction which had hoped to reopen by Easter is now hoping to be back in business by the start of the summer.

The miniature railway in Valley Gardens, Saltburn, east Cleveland, has been closed for more than a year because of flood damage.

It was decided to move the track to the other side of the gardens to prevent the same thing happening again.

The volunteers who run the railway, with help from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, also decided to ask for permission to build a bigger engine shed and make a few other improvements.

It had been hoped that the work would be completed by Easter, but volunteer Reg Blacklock said the work had taken longer than anticipated.

So keen are the volunteers to make sure the attraction is open for the summer, they gave up their Easter Sunday to carry on with the work.

Redcar and Cleveland council is also providing manpower and funding.

Peter Lane, assistant director of leisure and community services, said: "With a bit of help from us, you could say it is full steam ahead for the summer.
