PEOPLE will have the chance to learn new skills in a series of activities to mark Adult Learners' Week.

Sunderland residents will be able to take part in the activities, ranging from stained glass making to wood turning, at venues across the city from Monday to Friday, May 13 to May 17.

They are aimed at encouraging more adults to get involved in learning, and will focus on the environment, culture and the arts - the key themes being promoted by the National Organisation for Adult Learning.

Among the activities on offer will be a ferry trip from the marina to Hylton Bridge, a tour of the National Glass Centre with the chance to try stained glass engraving and lampwork, a guided sculpture trail at St Peter's Riverside, a fun day at the Learning Place in Fawcett Street, and a green wood turning demonstration in the grounds of Hylton Castle.
