A DURHAM museum has acquired an exotic addition to its collection.
Durham University's Oriental Museum was recently given a green nephrite jade wine cup of a type that was produced in Persia, from the 15th Century onwards. The cup, being examined by Karen Excell, above, of the museum, has a floral handle growing from a stem that curls around underneath, and a floral bud rising inside from the base. The cup complements the Elvet Hill museum's collection of Chinese and Moghul jades, many of which are on display in the Chinese and Islamic galleries.
