Road closed by collision

A busy road in a County Durham town was closed for more than an hour during the morning rus, after an accident involving two cars and a bread van, yesterday.

No one was injured in the accident at the roundabout leading to Number One Industrial Estate on the main Consett to Medomsley road at about 8am.

FELL WALK: A fell walk and family fun day starting from Waldridge Tavern, Waldridge, Chester-le-Street, will take place on Monday, June 3, from noon. Spring fair: Newton Hall Senior Citizens Club in Durham is holding a spring fair on Saturday, April 27, at 2pm at All Saints Church, Carr House Drive.

Spiritual meetings are held in the Vane Tempest Hall, Gilesgate, Durham, on Mondays, starting at 7pm. There is a guest medium on the first Monday of each month.

Woodland walk: Nature lovers can enjoy a walk through the woodland at the Castle Eden Dene National Nature Reserve, Peterlee, on Saturday April 20 between 10.30am and 12.30pm. The event is free, but places must be booked by calling Melanie Hall on 0191-518 2403.

COFFEE MORNING: A coffee morning will be held on Monday at 10.30am in The Institute, Church Street, Durham, to raise money for Lupus UK and St Oswald's Guides.

FLOWER SHOW: Helena Johnson will give a demonstration of flower arranging for the home in the visitor centre at the Botanic Centre, Hollingside Lane, Durham, on Tuesday, April 16, at 7.30pm. Proceeds will go to the Children's Society. Tickets cost £3.50, and are available from the centre and Durham Tourist Information Centre.

CENTENARY CONCERT: Durham Johnston School, is celebrating 100 years since its foundation with concerts featuring the school orchestra and soloists. The event, combined with a photographic exhibition, will be held on April 24 and 25, at 7pm. Tickets, priced £3 and £2, will be available at the door.

CHARITY EVENT: Christ's Hospital, otherwise known as Sherburn Hospital, in Durham, has asked us to point out that proceeds from its open day on Sunday will go towards the residents' welfare fund, not the hospital's running costs as incorrectly stated in Wednesday's edition of The Northern Echo
