SIX people were taken to hospital after a school bus was involved in a collision with a car yesterday.

A woman driver and three teenage passengers in a Fiat, the driver of the coach and a youngster from the 40 on board were treated at Harrogate District Hospital after the accident, on Harrogate's Skipton Road, at about 8.30am yesterday. None of the casualties was believed to have been seriously injured, although the car driver had to be freed from the wreckage by a crew from a nearby fire station. Queues built up quickly on roads around the scene as police diverted rush-hour traffic.

FOCUS ON SAFETY: A roadshow highlighting dangers in the home is on tour this month. Adults living in and around Great Ayton are being urged to take in the Hambleton Home Safety event on Friday, May 24. Hosted by the Hambleton Community Safety Partnership, the event aims to deliver essential messages on home security, neighbourhood watch and fire safety. The event will take place at Hollygarth House, Great Ayton, from 10am to 2pm. The partnership has already taken its safety campaign into Thirsk and Easingwold.

FUN AND FUNDRAISING: Allerton Players are staging an evening of entertainment on Thursday, May 16, at 8pm, at Romanby WI Hall. The event will be raise money for youngster Rosie Henry, who suffers from a rare degenerative condition which has made walking and talking difficult. The event will include performance poetry and the award-winning Tell Me Another Story, Sing Me a Song, by Jean Lenox Toddie. Tickets cost £5 and are available by calling (07968) 041887.

MP'S VISIT: Vale of York MP Anne McIntosh is to visit Easingwold Primary School tomorrow to see the latest stages of work on building two classrooms.

ROAD CLOSURE: The Hawnby to Laskill road, near Helmsley, is to be temporarily closed for drainage improvement works. The closure begins on Monday and is expected to last five days
