City of Durham Pumas rounded off an outstanding season by winning the Premier League title this weekend. This added to the County Cup and League Cup made it a perfect treble-winning season. The Pumas had back-to-back games against Sunderland side Belford House. On Tuesday the 'fast cats' won 9-0 with goals from Dan Petts (2), Luke Sullivan (2), Olly Hotchkiss (2), Alex Courtney, James Marwood and Anthony 'Dink' Fryatt.

On Sunday in the return game the boys again played attractive football and went out in style 6-1 with strikes from Alex Courtney, Ross Wilkinson, Dan Petts, Dan Burley, Luke Sullivan and James Marwood.

The coaches of this fantastic team would like to thank the boys and parents for their commitment during this long season.

Rohm and Haas JOC Hetton Youth League

It is now a two-horse race between Herrington and Jarrow At B Bedes for championship.

Only a couple of points separate the pair and both sides have one game to play. Herrington maintained their title aspirations defeating Hebburn 8-0 when the goals flowed from Craig Elison (3), Ben Gawthorne (2), John Davies, Brian Smiles and Richard Hall. Jarrow St Bedes, meanwhile, were narrow 2-1 winners at Trimdon who for most of the season have also been involved in the race for the title. After conceding two first half goals, Trimdon pulled a goal back through Ian Bickerstaff but failed to make further inroads into Jarrow's advantage.

In a couple of midweek games there were victories for Trimdon and for Lumley. Trimdon hit South Moor 6-1 with strokes from Kurt Luke, who bagged a brace, Paul Wilkinson, Dale Elliott, Ian Ward and Ian Bickerstaff. Lumley visited Hebburn and won 4-0 scoring three times in the second half. The game was a personal triumph for Shaun Pearson, Lumley's centre back, who scored his first ever goal for the club in his last game. Craig McManus rifled a hat trick. South Moor lifted the North East Durham Youth Cup with a 4-2 success over Trimdon. Although Trimdon twice fought back, South Moor deservedly celebrated. David Short and Ian Bickerstaff were the marksmen for Trimdon.

New County North Durham Youth League

Redheugh lifted the Charlie Thomas Memorial Trophy with a 3-0 victory over Hebburn with goals from Gary Warmsley (2) and Stephen Hall.

In the semi-final played two days earlier Redheugh saw off the challenge from West Denton by a 2-1 margin thanks to a brace of goals from David Jeffers.

Cleveland Hall were successful over Redheugh in the U16 division Subsidiary Cup Final winning 2-1. Michael Maughan and Chris Laws were on target for Cleveland Hall with Tony Thirkell replying for the Reds.

Brompton

THE Under-14 Girls competed against strong opposition from Rotherham and Leeds United in the Ryedale Tournament at Wigginton at the weekend.

A win against Poppleton, with two excellent goals from Harriet Middleton, and a hard-fought draw against Leeds United put Brompton in with a chance of progressing to the final stages of the competition.

Despite determination and effort in the deciding match against Rotherham, Brompton lost 3-0. A brave debut performance by Brompton keeper Michelle Harrison denied the opposition a more emphatic win. Other Brompton stars were Jeena Sharda, Helen Fisher and Toni Barwick. Having only limited opportunities for competitive football throughout the season, joint team managers Gill Middleton and Val Briggs were delighted with the team's display.

* Players of all abilities and ages are still needed to reinforce Brompton's commitment to girls football and anyone interested in joining this progressive and improving squad should contact the club secretary, Ian Griffiths, on (01609) 770861.

Chester-le-Street Town

Chester-le-Street Town Juniors Under-18s are one way a win from a clean sweep of trophies in all competitions this season.

The Under-18s have had an outstanding season having won the Durham County Cup beating Redheugh 3-1 and finished 13 points ahead of Jarrow St. Bedes in the Russell Foster Premier League.

The team have one game left, a League Cup Final against Sunderland side Groves at Nissan Sports Ground on May 19 to try and achieve a unique treble.

It hasn't been all plain sailing for the Under-18s this season, with just one game left for a 100 per cent league record, the side were beaten 2-1 by Brandon United at Moor Park last Thursday evening.

David Hope had given Chester a 1-0 interval lead but a goal by the League's scorer John Harrison, and an own goal by Cestrian defender Stuart Rand, five minutes from time, sealed an unlikely victory for the visitors who finished in third place.

Chester boss Andrew Muxworthy said: "We had won our first 17 league games of the season and maybe the lads thought it would be automatic going into the last league match. Complacency though is a dangerous word and this is a painful reminder of what could have been a very unique situation indeed.

"The lads were upset after the game but it was pointed out that as Stuart Rand had scored an own goal for the winner then we could argue that the only side to beat us so far is ourselves. That is how the players prefer to look at it."

Chester-le-Street Under-17s finished the season in fifth place - their lowest ever finish by far. The finished 12 points adrift of eventual winners City of Durham in what has been a traumatic season.

The side had being doing well in all competitions up the point they were beaten by Redheugh Boys Club in the quarter-finals of the Durham County Cup. The Under-17s finished on Sunday with a 2-1 victory over Horden CW. Shaun Beckwith (penalty) and Mark Adamson scored the goals.

The Under-16s started the season very well under the guidance of Harry Cattell, but fell away badly, eventually finishing fourth off bottom having won only six out of 18 games. Harry will continue to manage the side next season as he rebuilds at Under-17 level.

Next season, the Under-18s side will switch to a Saturday league and play at Moor Park. The ball has already been set rolling with confirmation of the sides entry to the AXA FA Youth Cup. Andrew said: "The FA Cup is a very big attraction for players because it is the biggest junior game of football they could ever play in their lives. Hopefully we will do as well as last year."
