Thompson Brown Mixed Open has always been a very popular event and has attracted a full entry list for an event held so early in the season.

A day of mixed weather greeted the players but this did prevent some good scoring with prizes being awarded to the top ten positions in this nett competition.

A gross prize with a score of 76 was won by John and Barbara Webster.

Close scoring required a card countback being required to identify the position of many prizewinners.

Although the course is playing well it is still early in the season for exceptional scoring but this will surely happen in the coming weeks.

Seniors

A bogey Stableford competition tested the elderly golfers this week with a card countback required to separate the top placings.

33 points John Carr (16), Alec Crow (16), Gareth Jones( 18); 32 points Wilf Leigh (23).

Ladies Coronation Foursomes

This was played to decide the pair who will represent the club at Wakefield Golf Club on the June 27 and was won by Margery Taylor and Ann Naylor with a nett score of 74playing to a handicap of 30.

Yorkshire Veterans Womens Championships

Sue Maynard had an excellent round of golf to finish in joint third position in the opening medal round played at Fulford Golf Club and qualified for the matchplay rounds. In the first round she was drawn against T Speed from Lindrick Golf Club who she beat by a 4 and 3 margin. In the quarter finals again up against another Lindrick player this time L.Self she had a very tight match Which went to the 19th before conceding defeat.
