AN action group has been formed to oppose development of an abattoir in the Boroughbridge area.
A planning application to develop the abattoir at Rougham Farm, near Marton cum Grafton, has been tabled with Harrogate Borough Council.
A group in Marton cum Grafton is opposing the plans and residents in Arkendale, Clareton, Coney-thorpe and Flaxby are also being asked to join the protest by Arkendale Action Committee Against the Abattoir.
Residents claim buildings for the abattoir and meat processing plant will cover an area equivalent to two large supermarkets.
A date for the planning application has not yet been set, but is likely to be in July.
