Matthew Wood and Steven Kirby replace the England duo of Michael Vaughan and Matthew Hoggard in Yorkshire's Frizzell Championship match with Kent at Canterbury today.

While Vaughan and Hoggard teamed up with the England squad at Lord's to prepare for tomorrow's first Test against Sri Lanka, Yorkshire hit the road from Taunton to Canterbury as they continue their long tour of the South.

Sunday's one-run win over Somerset has improved morale and there are promising signs that they will break their Championship duck after two crushing defeats for the title holders.

Yorkshire's recent record against Kent is extremely impressive with five consecutive wins and they have achieved the double over their opponents in the last two seasons. Yorkshire may even be strengthened by the return of Wood because he is in better form than Vaughan at the moment, having plundered consecutive centuries in one-day cricket inbetween being felled by Derbyshire paceman Mohammad Ali and having nine stitches inserted above his left eye.

"I just couldn't wait to get back on Sunday and I was glad that I was able to score runs again," said Wood.

"I knew I would be given a few short ones after returning from injury but they didn't trouble me and I soon settled in.

"It was good to get a century but quite honestly I was quite happy just to be in the middle and watch Darren Lehmann reach the same landmark with some brilliant batting.

"It really is an education to be at the crease with him and the best place to be is at the non-striker's end and let him get on with it."

Gavin Hamilton, who has been given a complete break from cricket in an attempt to restore his confidence, is included in the Second XI along with 17-year-old paceman Tim Bresnan who travelled to Taunton for the Norwich Union match but was not selected.

* Yorkshire captain Darren Lehmann has yet to make his mind up whether he will agree to go to Pakistan in August if Australia's planned tour goes ahead.

Australia's captain Steve Waugh and Test teammates Glenn McGrath and Shane Warne have all said that they will not travel to Pakistan following last week's bomb outrage in Karachi which killed 14 people and caused the New Zealand cricket team to cut short their tour.

"The first thing is to get picked for the tour but if I am selected I would have to think very seriously about it," said Lehmann yesterday.

"The Australian Cricket Board will keep us well informed about what is happening and I will not make a decision until I return home in June for a Series of three one-day matches against Pakistan.

"It is certainly a touchy one and I need to talk it over with my wife and family and think long and hard about it.
