A SERIES of doorstep health walks are taking place this month. Volunteer walkers will be taking Gateshead residents on a series of two-mile circular walks to encourage people to take part in regular exercise from their front doors. Walkers can meet on Wednesday, at 7pm, for a walk from Chopwell medical centre in South Road, and on Friday, May 24, at 10am, at Gateshead Leisure Centre for a walk from Bensham. JUBILEE SERVICE: St Batholomew's Church, Thornley, will celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee on Sunday, June 2, with services to be held at 9.15am and 6pm.

FOLK NIGHT: Jez Lowe and The Bad Pennies will be the guest artists when the Davy Lamp Folk Club meets at The Arts Centre, Biddick Lane, Fatfield, Washington, on Saturday, May 25, between 8pm and 11pm.

HOMES PLAN: Durham City Council is being asked to grant planning permission for two detached homes to be built next to Belgrave House, Station Road East, Coxhoe.

ROCK DATE: Rock band E-Type, who play covers from the 1960s onwards, will be performing at O'Neill's Irish pub, Claypath, Durham, tonight, from 8.30pm. Admission is free.

JUBILEE FUN: Durham Community Association is staging activities in the Shakespeare Hall, North Road, Durham, on Saturday, June 15, to celebrate the Queen's Golden Jubilee. They include a quilting workshop, line dancing, 50/50 dance and Middle Eastern dancing display.

FLATS PLAN: Caf Rock is seeking planning permission from Durham City Council to convert the Flower Warehouse, Claypath, Durham, into three flats for students.

GARDENS DRIVE: A campaign will be launched by Newcastle City Council next month to encourage council tenants to tidy up their gardens.

ADVICE MORNING: Age Concern is holding a free coffee and advice morning at Silver Courts, Brandon, next Wednesday from 10am to noon, in partnership with Durham Police Community Safety department.

PARK PARTY: Coxhoe Parish Council, the Village Hall Association and the Community Partnership are organising a party in the park next to Coxhoe Leisure Centre, to mark the Queen's Golden Jubilee. The event , on June 1, will run from noon to 4pm and will include a picnic, music, a fancy dress competition and an enormous inflatable slide.

MORGANS MEET: Rare sports cars will be on display at Beamish Museum on Sunday during the 21st Morgan Sports Car Club Meet. Morgans will arrive from throughout the North to take part. Cars will be judged on condition and presentation.

GREAT OUTDOORS: Pitting-ton Photography Club starts its summer outdoor programme on Monday with a trip to South Shields. Members should meet in the car park next to The Haven Hotel at the mouth of the River Tyne at 7.30pm.

ADVICE SESSIONS: Durham Citizens' Advice Bureau is holding village outreach advice sessions at Kelloe Community Association on Monday, between 11am and noon; at New Brancepeth Village Hall, on Tuesday, between 11am and noon; and at Esh Winning Community Centre, on Thursday, between 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
