Middlesbrough Council engineer Ian Busby has been awarded two accolades. The highway services manager has become one of a handful of people to receive the status of Fellow of the Institute of Civil Engineers. He has also collected the Institute's Geoff Bailey Memorial Award in recognition of his work during the past 15 years.

Temporary lights: There will be temporary traffic lights on Normanby Road at Ormesby all next week to allow for repairs to a gas main by Transco.

Pensioner conned: Two conmen, posing as charity volunteers, stole cash from the home of a York pensioner on Thursday. The woman, who lives in Heworth, was distracted by one man, who claimed to represent Age Concern, while the other stole a purse from her handbag. Getting fit: Stockton Borough Council sports development team and countryside wardens at Castle Eden Walkway, Thorpe Thewles, are offering people the chance to get fit for life for free on Sunday, May 26. Activities between 10.30am and 3.30pm include gentle walks and nature trails for youngsters, as well as orienteering. YOUTH CHARGED: A 15-year-old boy is to appear at court on Tuesday charged with aggravated vehicle taking following a high speed police chase in Middlesbrough. It took place early yesterday morning around the Marton area after a resident reported his BMW stolen. A cyclist who was riding along Freemantle Crescent who was nearly knocked off his bike during the chase is urged to contact Sonja Whittingham on (01642) 303126.

Award presentation: The Stockton Blind People's Voice Association is presenting the Asda store in Billingham with an award for being voted the most blind friendly place to shop this year in the Teesside area. The presentation will take place this morning.

LANE CLOSURES: There will be lane closures on the A1086, A66, A171 and A174 throughout Redcar and Cleveland all next week to allow for street cleaning duties, and maintenance.
