Pupils from Marton Grove Primary School, in Middlesbrough, have received books worth £300 from Lightwater Valley theme park, near Ripon, North Yorkshire.

Park mascot Sally the Valligator was on hand to present the books, which the school won in a prize draw for an end-of-term outing for year six pupils, who will be going to secondary school in September.

CHILDCARE MONTH: Middlesbrough and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Councils are joining forces to present a range of free events to raise awareness and celebrate developments in childcare as part of National Childcare Month.

TEMPORARY LIGHTS: There will be temporary traffic lights for the next 17 weeks from Woodstone Street to Gladstone Street at Brotton Road, Carlin How, east Cleveland, to allow Northumbrian Water to put in a sewer.

EVENING SERVICE: Middlesbrough Spiritualist Church holds its Thursday evening service at the church on Borough Road, Middlesbrough, on June 6 at 7pm. The healing session will begin at 6pm.

PATIENT FUNDRAISING: Organisers of the Patient Comfort Fund at Guisborough General Hospital are hoping to raise more than £6,000 for a bladder scanner. Fundraising events include a sponsored slim by hospital staff, a World Cup barbecue and a jubilee coffee morning at the de Brus day centre on Wednesday from 9.30am.

SIGHT CELEBRATION: Teesside Glaucoma Support Group is holding a picnic in the park at Victoria Square, Middlesbrough, on Friday, June 14, from 1pm where they will be publicising the value of sigh tests.
