PUBLIC relations and marketing firm Recognition had a VIP to open its new offices.

Former Tory leader, Richmond MP William Hague did the honours at the Lingfield Point complex in Darlington.

Mr Hague was returning a favour for Recognition partner Graham Robb, who organised the Conservatives' campaign at the last General Election.

The move to Lingfield Point, in McMullen Road, marks expansion plans by the business, which now employs ten staff.

Mr Robb said: "I've been in the PR business for 15 years, and set up this company from scratch in 1989, working from my house in Hartlepool.

"This opening today shows just how far we have come since then."

The company, which moved from Victoria Road, in the town, earlier this year, represents more than 50 clients in the UK.

Mr Hague said: "Having worked with Graham during the last General Election campaign, I know just how hard working he is."

Another partner, Frances Bourne said: "We are a growing business and our move to Lingfield House confirms our commitment to Darlington."

Adding some colour to the opening was cartoonist Bill Tidy, who revealed his Tidy Tapestry of Recognition Through History to the assembled guests and civic dignitaries.

Maurice Dezou and musicians from Caf International in Middlesbrough provided an African theme for the event.
