Staff from Durham Prison will present a cheque for about £1,400 to the children's ward at the University Hospital of North Durham, at 2pm on Thursday, June 20, after staff and inmates collected the amount through fundraising activities.

Wood walk: A free four-mile walk through woodland at Beamish, near Stanley, will be held on Sunday, June 16, as part of a fitness programme organised by Durham and Chester-le-Street Lifestyle Initiative. The walk starts at 11am from the car park opposite the View Tops, known as Beamish Club.
