Darlington and District League

Heighington remain top of Division One following their eight-wicket victory over Aldbrough St John who they restricted to 109 all out.

Most of the runs came from Smelling with 39 and for Heighington Jackson claimed four wickets for 16 runs.

Replying, Heighington reached the target for the loss of just two wickets. Opener Riley fell after scoring 42 but his colleague Campbell carried his bat for 50. The pair added 90 for the first wicket and victory was secured in only 17 overs.

Rockcliffe Park are second and they had 29 runs in hand of Barton. Batting first the Park finished on 170 which included 37 by Crishman and 32 from Pounder. Frankland with five for 63 and Wilson, who returned four for 17, were in good form with the ball for Barton.

When Barton, who are third in the table, went in to bat they produced a good performance before being all out for 141 which included 53 by Headon, batting low in the order. Both Garbutt and Howell claimed four wickets for Rockcliffe Park.

Witton-le-Wear won for the first time and did so in style defeating Spennymoor by 126 runs after posing 164 for six in 40 overs. Peter Chrisp, who hit three boundaries in 38 and his opening partner David Penfold, with three sixes and nine boundaries in 78, put on 130 for the first wicket. Troup was the pick if the Spennymoor bowlers with figures of four for 45 in 13 overs.

Replying, Spennymoor were all out in 25 overs for just 38 runs, Alan Jones claimed five for 11 in as many overs four of which were maidens, David Penfold returned two for 16 in 11 overs and Philip Smart also took a couple of wickets at a cost of five runs in two overs.

Raby Castle ended with 160 for five but still lost by six wickets to Ingleton. Laundy (67) and Stuart Dawson, who carried his bat for 65m were the match-winners for Ingleton.

Opener Ian Dent batted throughout the Raby Castle innings finishing with 56 not out and he was supported by Hirst who contributed 38.

Cockerton had just ten runs in hand at Eyreholme. The visitors batting first, realised 161 all out including 44 by Cowan batting at number ten and an unbeaten 26 from last man Glew. Craggs captured half the wickets to fall for 43 runs.

When they went in to bat Eyreholme started well and opening batsman Warne scored 30. Later , Harker finished undefeated on 40 but eventually Eyreholme were all out for just 151. The wickets were shared and Farrow, Leeth, Warr and Lethbridge all took a couple of wickets.

Barningham ended on 132 for four for which opener Mullins finished undefeated on 47 before Middleton St George went on to win by eight wickets. Their match-winner was Rogers who was just eight runs short of a century when he was dismissed.

Haughton lead Division B and they won for the fifth time in seven outings defeating Dales by just 16 runs. Wilkinson, with four for 32 and Keen (3-26) were the bowlers mainly responsible for Dales ending as loser. Simpson and Hird, who both captured three wickets were also in good form when Haughton batted first before their innings closed on 118.

Middleton Tyas bowled out King James for just 60 in 37.3 overs. Adrian Rummel returned five for 37 in 19 overs and Nigel Wilkinson had three for five from 5.3 overs.

Although it took Middleton Tyas 23.4 overs before reaching a winning score they were never in danger as Nigel Wilkinson carried his bat for 31, hitting five boundaries and Jonathan Mann finished 28 not out with a six and four fours.

Brompton on Swale were sent back for 102 replying for the Catterick Village of 125 for six. Oselton, with five for 23 bowled well for Catterick Village and when the home side made first use of the wicket they found Frankland and Leyburn in good form with the ball as the pair shared six wickets. Coultish with 42, top performed in the Catterick Village total of 125 for six.

Trimdon CCA ran out 22 run victory over Cliffe. S Gorton (55), Coughtrey (25) and D Gorton (25) all made useful contributions to the Trimdon CCA total of 146 as Curry returned six for 47. Replying Cliffe were all out for 124 which included an unbeaten 40 by Flunder who opened the innings. Coughtrey and Watchman both took three wickets for Trimdon CCA.

After reducing Heighington to 84 when Little claimed five for five runs and Dalton returned three for 22, Lands lost four wickets before winning. Openers Elstob (35) and Bowes (30) scored the bulk of the runs and for Heighington Selby captured three of the four wickets to go down for only 12 runs.

Raw with a splendid figures of five for 37 and Whitfield, three for 36, restricted Middleton in Teasdale to 75 a target which East Cowton met but not before they had conceded six wickets, four of them to N Watson at a cost of 37 runs.

In Division C a century by Lewis who ended 100 not out was the feature of the Aldbrough St John total of 145 for six against Trimdon Colliery and Deaf Hill who won by six wickets when Owens had an unbeaten 93.

Trimdon CCA posted 103 for eight but lost by eight wickets to Lands for whole Selby top scored with 47.

Green (62) and Dobinson (42) led Haughton to 164 for eight with Hutchinson claiming three for 29 for Barningham who were all out for 33 as Cole claimed four for 11 and McCarthy three for eight.

The Raby Castle batsmen fared only marginally better at Spennithorne and Harmby where they realised just 45. Clarkson and Molyneux both took three wickets before Fallow hit an unbeaten 32 out of the Spennithorne and Harmby reply of 46 without loss.

After restricting Cliffe to 102, Cockerton won with their last pair at the wicket. Buckman almost pulled the game out of the fire for Cliffe with five for 40.

Rockcliffe Park lost just two wickets overtaking the Barton total of 58. Edwards was Rockcliffe Park's match-winner with the outstanding bowling analysis of six for 15.
