GEORDIE pantomime legend Berwick Kaler is to be honoured by the university in the city where he made his name.
York University is to confer an honorary degree on the actor, who has become an institution in the city thanks to his annual appearances.
He has also appeared in TV series ranging from Auf Wiedersehen Pet and Spender to the children's programme, Grange Hill.
For the past 20 years he has been the star and writer of York Theatre Royal's pantomime.
He will be one of eight people to receive the honour at a ceremony to be held at the university later this summer.
Among the others to receive honorary degrees will be actress Penelope Wilton, David Potter, inventor of the Psion personal organiser, and York sculptor and stone carver Dick Reid.
