HISTORY will change hands tomorrow when an estimated £300,000 worth of vintage cars and motorcycles go under the hammer.

Stars of the Bonhams sale, at the Great Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, include an Austin hearse dating back to 1925.

The car, valued between £11,000 and £13,000, appeared regularly in the TV comedy, In Loving Memory, with Thora Hird.

It can be converted into a pick-up and, in that guise, made cameo appearances in All Creatures Great and Small, Fourteen Days of Agatha and The Dresser.

Among the 450 lots is a 1921 Caden cycle-car, bought by a Mr Rowden, of Durham, for £148.

It completed just 1,000 miles before it was overtaken by automotive fashion and was left to gather dust in the family garage.

Rediscovered 30 years on, it was sold to a new owner, who restored it. When the sale starts tomorrow, it could fetch £5,000.

Bonhams expert Stewart Skilbeck said: "The sale has certainly become established as a regular event.

"With about 1,000 people expected to visit this year - 400 of them buying - it has always been the biggest in the North of England and even attracts people from abroad. This year, for example, we are expecting six cars from Holland."

Viewing is from 4pm until 8pm tonight, and from 9am until 11am tomorrow, after which the sale begins
