RESIDENTS of Peterlee, the Shottons and Haswell are invited to the next meeting of Easington District Central Area Forum, on Wednesday, July 3.

Residents and members of local organisations are welcome to raise issues of concern to a panel featuring councillors and officers of the district council, plus representatives of parish, town and county councils. The meeting will be held at Peterlee Methodist Church, Bede Way, starting at 6pm. Anyone who wishes to add an item to the agenda can do so by writing to Democratic Services and Administration, at the Council Offices, Seaside Lane, Easington, County Durham, SR8 3TN, by Monday, June 24.

JUBILEE CONCERT: Music lovers are invited to attend a concert in honour of the Queen's Golden Jubilee, including works by Handel and Tchaikovsky, and featuring Durham Sinfonia, at Durham Cathedral, on Saturday, at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced at £12.50 and £10 for concessions, with accompanied children free, are available from the Tourist Information Centre, Millennium Place, Durham, the Red Cross, Flass House, Durham, or at the door. All proceeds will go to the British Red Cross.

CALENDAR WINNERS: The three winners of the Images of Durham competition, who successfully named the 13 locations on the cover and 12 monthly pages in the 2002 version of the city council's annual calendar, received prizes from the city's Mayor, Councillor Eileen Rochford. Alan Wright, of Newton Aycliffe, Fleur Coppock, of Durham, and Ms K McKenzie, of Derby, each received framed prints by photographer Royston Thomas, whose images were used on the calendar.

MIDSUMMER STROLL: Fam-ilies are invited to join the Sunderland voluntary countryside rangers for a walk along the disused railway path linking Ryhope to Seaton, from 11am to 1.30pm on Sunday. Participants should meet at The Railway Inn, just off the Village Green, Ryhope. The event is free.

PLANT SALE: Thornley Woodlands Centre, Gateshead, will hold a plant sale in aid of wildlife conservation projects on Saturday from 10am to 4pm. Wildlife gardening experts will be on hand to answer questions.

GUIDE GIVEAWAY: Youngsters from Pelton Toddler Group will help distribute a free Clever Clogs guide, giving information on all aspects of caring for youngsters, tomorrow. The guide will be available from libraries, health visitors, Sure Start bases and children's groups.

OTTER TRAIL: Nature lovers are invited to go on the trail of the otter at the weekend. The Forestry Commission is staging a two-hour walk on Sunday along Kielder Burn, Northumberland, in the 155,000-acre Kielder Forest, to look for tell-tale signs of the creature's presence. Places on the walk, which sets out from Kielder Castle at 1pm, can be booked by calling (01434) 250209. It costs £3 for adults and £2 for concessions.
