A SUSPECT was still on the run last night after reports that a gunman had threatened a security guard at one of the east coast's biggest holiday parks.

Armed police descended on the Blue Dolphin Holiday Park, near Scarborough, in the early hours of Saturday.

The drama began when a security guard at one of the park's bars was allegedly threatened with the gun.

It was claimed that the gun had been fired during the incident but no one was hurt.

Armed officers quickly arrived at that park at Gristhorpe and an extensive search of the area was carried out.

The holiday park, part of the Rank Organisation, attracts thousands of trippers each year.

At one point, part of the A165 was sealed off, but no sign of the gunman was found.

A police spokesman said: "We are still trying to locate the individual concerned."

Detectives have built up a picture of what happened, and it is understood they have a possible suspect in mind.

A spokesman for Blue Dolphin, Tom Cassidy, said: "The park is safe for our visitors.

"An emergency plan was put in place as soon as the disturbance occurred and the police responded very quickly. No one was injured. The park is operating normally."
