A MOTHER of two sick children left stranded by car thieves has been overwhelmed by the generosity of readers of The Northern Echo.

Two of victim Deborah Hadley's children have medical conditions requiring frequent hospital check ups and supplies of medication.

Four-year-old Kieran has cystic fibrosis, while six-year-old Daniel is asthmatic, has an immune system problem and a rare blood disorder.

The news of her plight touched the hearts of Northern Echo readers. She has received letters and offers of help from across the region.

As reported in our pages yesterday, two people on Teesside have offered her their second cars - free of charge.

Mrs Hadley who lives at Skelton, in east Cleveland, said yesterday: "We have had letters through the post which have found me. The response from readers of your newspaper has been fantastic.

"And it shows there are good, genuine people out there who actually care."

Mother-of-three Mrs Hadley, who has had to cancel a holiday because of the theft, said: "I have a letter from a man in County Durham.

He won a competition, for admission to Pleasure Island in Cleethorpes, near where I take my sons on holiday, and he has sent me his free pass prize.

"When something like this happens and people rally round and show they care, it really restores your faith in human nature."

She added: "Having the car stolen really frightens me if anything happened and I needed transport. I have got two appointments for Kieran tomorrow - one of them at West Lane Hospital, Middlesbrough."
