YOUNGSTERS aged eight to 14 fromthe borough of Stockton have been invited to a series of athletics coaching sessions at Thornaby Pavilion, from August 5 to 9.

Everyone taking part will receive a free T-shirt, baseball cap, water bottle and goodie bag. The course, which costs £16, will involve standing long jump, standing triple jump, indoor shot, vertical jump, running, relays, speed bounce and indoor javelin throwing. MUSIC AWARD: Egglescliffe School, Eaglescliffe, has received an outstanding performance award at the Music For Youth National Festival. Performing Leighton's Dance Suite in D, under their director Keith Hewson, the orchestra received the award at the Royal Festival Hall, London.

STRAWBERRY TEA: Strawberries and cream teas will be served either outside Newcomen Methodist Church, Mersey Road, Redcar, or in Epworth Hall, on Saturday, July 20, depending on the weather. Tickets for the event, between 3pm and 5pm, are £1.50.

CRAFT STALLS: Craft exhibitors are invited to show their wares at the ninth annual Kirkleatham Rally in Redcar on August 10 and 11. Organisers want to offer the biggest display of craft stalls that the event - which usually attracts about 5,000 people - has ever seen and they 30 places available in the museum pavilion. Calligraphy exhibition: Work by the North Yorkshire Calligraphers is on display at Preston Hall Museum, Eaglescliffe. More than 50 pieces of word art have been put together by 21 contributors to form the Colour of Words exhibition which will run until July 31. Preston hall Museum is open every day from 10am to 5.30pm. Admission is £1.20 and 60p for concessions.

Bail granted: A 12-year-old suspected heroin dealer arrested during a drugs swoop in Middlesbrough has been given police bail pending forensic tests. The boy was arrested on suspicion of supplying heroin, earlier this week.
