THE emphasis was on the past over the weekend as history was brought alive to mark National Archaeology Day.
Visitors to York were given the chance to meet an ancient legionary and discover more about the city's Viking and Roman heritage.
At the St Leonard's site they were given the chance to solve archaeological mysteries and handle ancient relics.
At the Jorvik Viking Centre visitors had the opportunity to meet archaeologists and sort, sift and identify authentic artefacts from the distant past.
