George Mann Cup : Wolsingham Mill Race became the 31st name on the 1928 cup when they beat Wolsingham Teachers in the final, played at Wolsingham School and Community College and sponsored by Weardale Steel.

The trophies were presented by the Cup Committee Chairman, George Wearmouth in the absence of Mrs Nancy Mann, who was missing her first final at the school through illness.

The Mill Race won the toss and decided to bat - a decision, which was to prove vital even though they started very slowly, taking only nine runs from the first four overs. However, openers, Richie Hanlon and Simon Campbell both made 20. Josh Wilks followed with 25 in six scoring shots then Richie Pringle with 23 and John Nelson with 20 maintained the quick scoring. Eventually the Mill Race ran out their twenty overs with a score of 152.

The Teachers reply started at a much faster pace even though they lost an early wicket they made 37 runs from the first four overs. Opener Gary Stephenson made 22 and Graeme Dalton 20 in this fast scoring spell, where they were still ahead of the rate required with 55 off eight overs. However the run rate dropped as the batsmen refused singles and then when they did try to lift the pace again suffered from three run outs. Alan Turnbull hit a late hectic 20 but the overs ran out with the score on 102.

The Mill Race captain, Josh Wilks received the George Mann Cup and all the team replicas. The players were Richie Hanlon, Simon Campbell, Richie Pringle, John Nelson, Tim Webster, Richard Cramb, Marc Gray and Bruno Porter.

The runners-up trophies went to Gary Thompson, Willy Bell, Dave Ross, Alan Turnbull, Gary Stephenson, Steve Copley, Graeme Dalton, Nick Dalton and Andrew Cocker.

The umpires, Michael Manuel and Ray Richardson were presented with mementoes. They judged the Man of the Match, who received the Alan Mann Memorial Cup and replica. They mentioned the good performances with the bat from Josh Wilks, Richie Pringle and Graeme Dalton but presented the award to Gary Stephenson for his quick scoring, good bowling and some fine stops at deep square leg.

The winners in the Competition raffle were 1st Anthony Hird of Tow Law won the cricket bat donated by and signed by the players of Durham County Cricket with ticket number 756; 2nd Colin Perry of Stanhope won the first ever ten inch Dales Fruit Cake donated by Jenkins and Hustwith with ticket number 219; 3rd Alan Turnbull of Frosterley won the petrol voucher donated by Wilks Garage with ticket number 2388; 4th H. Dowson of Rookhope won the Bottle of Three Barrels Brandy donated by Jeff Ridley, former landlord of Sunniside Comedian, with ticket number 1138; 5th John Woodhall of Stanhope won the Bottle of Lamb's Navy Rum, donated by Charlie Donaghy. George Wearmouth made the draw between innings in the final.

The cup competition was also presented with a cheque for £175 by the Weardale Cricket Club, which has now disbanded.Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League U15s.

Lanchester inflicted a ten wickets defeat who they dismissed for 29 as Greg Halliday took four wickets for only six runs and Stuart McPhail two for eight. Lanchester romped home in quick time without losing a wicket.

Runs were more plentiful at Lintz, but it was Sacriston who scored the bulk of them. Batting first the visitors reached 127 for three which included 40 by Mark Fort and 33 from Chris Burke, while Hockday added a valuable 32. Replying Lintz were sent back to the pavilion for 36 runs as Appleton captured three wickets for 14 runs.

Tantobie slumped to 29 all out in their home game with Greenside for whom Marshall claimed five wickets for just six runs. Greenside went on to win with seven wickets in tact.

Daniel Stewart (42) and Micky Curran (23) were the principal contributors to the Crookhall total of 102 for five against Blaydon. Johnson had two for ten in three overs for the visitors.

Blaydon responded with 98 for five leaving Crookhall narrow winners by four runs. Mason top scored with 36 in the visitors innings and for Croohall Mattie Edgar bowled a good end returning two for 29 from four overs.

Mark Stoneman was again in super form in Burnopfield's game at Chopwell where he carried his bat for 112. Adam Tinnion ably assisted with 34 not out and Burnopfield posted 182 for three. All three wickets were taken by Bell at a cost of 53 runs. Responding Chopwell were dismissed for 57 with Lee Stoneman taking two for four and cousin Mark two for seven.

Foster's Northumberland and Tyneside Senior League U18

Sacriston enjoyed an eight wickets victory when they met Shotley Bridge. Faced with a target of 119 they were indebted to Martin Hubber and Craig Burke who formed an unbroken partnership for the third wicket. Hubber ended with 41 not out which included four boundaries and Burke struck seven fours in 50 not out.

Batting first Shotley Bridge finished with 118 for two and most of the runs came from Charlton whose 55 included nine boundaries and Crinnion who found the boundary line on five occasions adding 35. Ian Nelson with two wickets for 34 runs in five overs, top performed in the Sacriston attack.

Consett were all out for 96 replying to the Whickham total of 119 for five. Ian Stewart hit seven fours in 41, but it was Eyes who starred when he claimed six wicket for six runs in five overs.

Eyes was also in top form with the bat when Whickham posted 119 for five and his innings of 60 included one six and six boundaries. Morton struck four fours in 41 and for Consett Ian Steward had three for 26 from five overs.

Blaydon totalled 94 for six before bowling out Annfield Plain for 65 when Anthony Baker took four wickets for ten runs in 4.4 overs. Khan with 24 top scored for Plain and in the Blaydon innings Robson had three wickets for 21 runs in five overs.

Burnopfield romped to a nine wickets victory at Chopwell. Former Annfield Plain youngster Graham Carr scored 53 with one six and 11 boundaries out of the visitors total of 87 for one. Ryan McVittie finished unbeaten on 27 having hit one six and four fours. Batting first Chopwell totalled 81 for five and their top performer with the bat was Adam Tams who recorded five boundaries scoring 25.

David Richardson was again in magnificent form for Crookhall at home to Swalwell. He szlammed six sixes and 16 boundaries in an outstanding innings of 123 as Crookhall realised 198 for six. Rob Grand had two for 31 and Wilson two for 42 for Swalwell who in reply were all out for 30 as Daniel Stewart captured four wickets for 14 runs in five overs and Richardson completed a good night returning two for 11, also from five overs.

Premier Sports Durham Coast League U15

Murton lost by 51 runs visiting Bill Quay who made the healthy total of 141 for three when three players scored at least 30 runs.

Alec Strange led the way with 42, David Earl contributed 38 and Craig Lyall 36 when Bill Quay ended on 141 for four from their 20 overs. Logan with two wickets for 16 runs in three overs was the most productive bowler in the Murton attack.

When Murton went to the wicket they could only make 90 for five which included 20 by Tom Raine and an unbeaten 21 from Elliott Hughes. Adam Farrell sent down four overs in the Bill Quay attacked taking three wickets for 13 runs and Craig Lyall had one for 13 also in a four overs spell.

Castle Eden were at home to Dawdon and won by eight wickets. They were required to score 94 runs and were indebted to Liam Brown for his undefeated innings of 57. Next top scorer was Danny Evans with 17.

Graham with 25 led the Dawdon innings which compiled 93 for six with Danny Evans taking two for five in four overs and Liam Brown two for 15 when he also bowled four overs for Castle Eden.

Premier Sports Durham Coast League U18s

AStephenson and Stephen Gill were both in super form for Dawdon who played Hylton and won by 41 runs. Batting first Dawdon ended on 137 for three which included 57 by Stephenson with four boundaries. Gale struck six fours top scoring with 61 while for Hylton Anderson took two of the three wickets to fall for 33 runs.

When they went into bat Hylton could only manage 96 for seven which included an unbeaten 24 by Foster and 41 from Holder, who found the boundary line on six occasions. Mark Ewart returned two for seven in the Dawdon attack.

Matthew Tudball with three wickets for seven runs played a leading role in dismissing Silksworth for 46 before Castle Eden went on to win without losing a wicket. Seaham Park realised 115 for seven mainly as the result of the efforts of Shaun Sutherland with 33 and Steve Moreton (30). Visitors Boldon CA were pegged to 96 all out with Akhtar claiming two wickets for 20 runs.

Murton struck 153 for five and secured a big victory over Peterlee who responded with 85 for seven. Chris Milne finished undefeated on 52 and for Peterlee Wilson took two of the five wickets for 30 runs.

Winter with 25 and Peart with 22 were the leading contributors to the Peterlee total and in the Murton attack Aidan Vout captured three wickets for 19 runs and James Watson three for 21.

Ryhope hosted Bill Quay and after the visitors totalled 134 for the loss of four wickets, the Wearsiders were all out for 99.

Federation Special Durham Senior League U18s

Joel Hughes was in super form for Durham City in their game with Marsden. He carried his bat for an excellent 112 and Tim Stonock contributed 77 to the massive total of 203 for the loss of one wicket. Replying Marsden made 98 for five of which Amar added 43 while in the City attack Tom Ellis captured a couple of wickets at a cost of one run.

Chester-le-Street lost by eight runs to Philadelphia. Batting first Phili ended on 81 for four and most of the runs came from William Orchin who ended with 50 not out. Despite John Coxon scoring 39 the Cestrians could only manage 73 for eight as Jonathan Loach captured three wickets for 13 runs.

Adam Loscombe was again in good form for Hetton Lyons but despite contributing 44 to his side's total of 90 for seven Lyons lost by 25 runs to Felling. Paul Leonard with three for 25 bowled well for Felling who batting first ended with 115 for six which included 22 by Joe Brunskill. Jarvis with four wickets for 22 runs was the most successful bowler in the Lyons attack.

Despite scoring 130 without losing a wicket Horden lost by 17 runs to Eppleton.

Craig Hughes scored 68 and Anthony Anderson 46 not out leading Eppleton to 147 for three. Watson, with an unbeaten half-century and Johnson (42no) both batted well for Horden.
