Tommy Taylor is awaiting the telephone call which could complete his summer rebuilding work.

Carlisle's Stuart Whitehead has been targeted for a move across the Pennines to Feethams and talks with the player's agent have been ongoing while Quakers have been in the Isle of Man this week.

Taylor is confident about clinching the signature of the 26-year-old who can play either in central defence or as a defensive midfielder.

The Quakers boss said: "I'm just waiting for a phone call from his agent now.

"I like to think it's a case of when he signs, not if. I couldn't give you a date, but we have been talking with his agent and I'm quite hopeful."

Whitehead, who is the Carlisle captain, has made 155 appearances for the Cumbrians since signing in 1998 from Bolton Wanderers on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, a last minute change of plan has meant that injured duo Paul Campbell and Matt Clarke will remain with the rest of the squad in the Isle of Man.

After receiving treatment on their injuries, they are expected to be fit for tomorrow's final against Wrexham (2pm).

* The Darlington Supporters Trust are holding their second quiz night on Tuesday, July 30, upstairs in the Tap and Spile pub, Darlington town centre.

* Burnley manager Stan Ternent has been left rueing the goal which got away after being forced to put his entire squad up for sale.

The Clarets missed out on a play-off place on goal difference to Norwich last season and now, following the collapse of the ITV Digital deal, Ternent must sell to balance the books.

Six players have already been released by the Lancashire club over the summer but more may now head for the Turf Moor exit.
