Low clear, no flow and warm weather meant it was a day for the pole to dominate with light feeding the order of the day during round four of the Yarm AA Summer League on the lower reaches of the Tees, writesJeff Herbert..

Darlington Angling Centre's Peter Nesbitt fished a terrific match to put 13.7.0 onto the scales.

Drawing peg 15 at Harkers Farm quality roach on the long pole over a little and often hemp approach worked a treat adding a few perch inside on worm.

Newman Scott newcomer Ken Golightly sat on 147 below the Shorde and included 4 skimmers along with perch and roach to pole with maggot and worm for 11.5.8.

Others in the frame: A Lepatourel (Map Garbolino) 9.12.0 B Cramner (Fencehouses) 9.6.0 D Rowden(Yarm Flynns) 9.4.0.

The shallows are still the place to draw on the Swale as the chub shoals prefer the oxygenated water after spawning leaving the deeper glides hard work indeed.

In the Idle and Thackley Open at Swainby Ripon's Derek Thompson left everybody else well behind with a comprehensive 24.14.0. Pegged in the streams below Maunby Village stickfloat and caster tempted 9 chub from a farside slack securing victory.

Second place Brian Havelock fishing above Kirby Grove Island legered bread for 3 chub totalling 11.14.0 but the Yarm rod was left cursing 4 lost heavyweights.

The Wharfe was coloured and rising slightly during the 2nd fixture of the North Central League around Wetherby and subsequently catches suffered.

Ripon's Cliff Lofthouse needed just a level 9.0.0 to top this 60 pegger. On the swimming baths section Cliff located 2 good sized chub on bomb and bread from under far bank trees then collected a few perch to worm.

Another chub duo totalling 7.1.0 on bomb and bread gave Boroughbridge's Tom Deighton next best which helped steer his team to victory on the day with 65 points - 5 ahead of Claro.

League to date: 1 Claro 133 pts; Jt 2 Boroughbridge & Ripon 130; 4 Knaresborough 119; 5 Thirsk 117 6 Wetherby 106.
