A PROGRAMME of summer activities has been organised by Durham City Council to keep youngsters entertained in the school holidays.

Youngsters can experience the ultimate in BMX/inline skating and skateboarding at the APE skateboard park, in Thornaby, Teesside, on August 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29. Helmets can be hired at the venue, and the trips, costing £8.50, are open to youngsters aged eight and above.

Junior golf coaching sessions will be available at Durham City Golf Club, from August 19 to 23. They are suitable for eight to 14 year-olds and cost £10.

A trip to Lightwater Valley, costing £12 and supervised by play leaders, is taking place on August 21. Youngsters aged between eight and 16 are asked to take a packed lunch or lunch money on the trip, which picks up at Abbey Leisure and Durham County Hospital and returns at 6pm.

Durham Sixth Form Centre will be the venue for tennis coaching from July 29 to August 20. The sessions are suitable for all ages and abilities and cost £12 per course.

Derwent Reservoir is offering the opportunity to try dinghy sailing, sail boarding or power boat sailing, with a trip from Durham County Hospital on July 31 costing £11.

In addition to the trips, Durham's five leisure centres are running their own activities.
