A MAN has been arrested in connection with a long-running investigation into obscene post sent to two women.

For the past four years, a Durham woman in her late fortiess has been receiving sexually explicit letters through the post, Christmas and Valentine's Day cards and more recently Polaroid photographs of the lower half of a naked man.

Detectives have now arrested and questioned a man in connection with the incident.

The victim, a regular churchgoer, received her first unwanted post in 1997 and earlier this week received another explicit Polaroid, accompanied by a note.

Follow-up enquiries led detectives to a house in the Durham City area on Thursday morning, where they arrested a 44-year-old man on suspicion of harassment.

Another recipient of obscene post came forward after the first woman allowed police to make a public appeal for information through the media and disclose details of her ordeal in January this year.

The second victim, who is also in her forties and from Durham, had not reported the letters to police previously.

The man arrested has been interviewed and released on police bail pending further enquiries.

He is due to answer police bail next Thursday.
